WP 6 examines possibilities to optimise the last mile operations which are considered as crucial to reduce the overall SWL production costs. The research work will be done with a special focus on the business cases as identified in WP 5.
The work package contains three main topics / tasks:
- Examine possibilities for containerised SWL traffic, focussing on last mile operations;
- Elaborate new SWL traction schemes using hybrid locomotives;
- Study on a new production method which is based on the idea of separating train movements and shunting processes in sidings, thereby making use of bi-modal road-rail vehicles.
