Work Package 8

Advanced SWL management procedures and ICT

Lead partners: Eureka / TU Berlin (WPL)

WP 8 tackles two main issues:

First one is the development of new hub management conception which enables freight centres and terminals to serve as hubs for both intermodal and SWL traffic; a main focus in this conception is on limiting unproductive processes and hub dwell times of wagons. Main objectives related to these tasks are to lay foundations for joint and cost-efficient SWL/intermodal production.

The second one will be a new data service for wagon based telematics information, such as tracking data and mileage counting information (taking into account Galileo positioning and TAF-TSI). With this new service it is expected to raise the quality due to improved information and reduce management and maintenance costs of railway operators considerably, especially for SWL.
